Read by the author... not always a good thing, but definitely good for this book. The author gets teary-voiced when he describes some sad events. Writing and pace are good. Interesting stories, well told and well read.
A few surprises: Weintraub and John Denver were executors of each other's wills and designated guardians for each other's children. Richard Gere got the lead in _An Officer and a Gentleman_ after John Denver turned it down. Weintraub insisted that George Burns wear a hat in _Oh, God_ because Burns had a bad toupee and wouldn't give it up. George Bush Sr got him into a (previously) gentile-only country club and they were great friends. Details of how Weintraub wound up promoting Elvis.
"Useful Stories" -- maybe not. "Persuasive Man" -- definitely. Includes a short interview with the author at the end of the text.
