The Best of the Best for an "Okie" gal like me. I have heard tales of my very elderly patients recalling the ridicule they actually in real life faced , when in the dust bowl, their families moved to California, looking for needed work, only to have children die on the way of starvation. Only the Lucky made it home to Oklahoma. And Steinbeck reinforces what has already been made known in Oklahoma. The Grapes of Wrath made me cry. My actual grandparents being ridiculed by Californians & pegged by the ridiculous term "Okie". The Californians actually had signs posted outside of their city limits "NO OKIES" or "NO WORK HERE, MOVE ON". Don't ever come into Oklahoma and call an elderly person an "Okie". It is a derogatory term to them. Steinbeck tells the truth , the whole truth , and nothing but the truth. RIVETING! HEARTBREAKING! & TRUE. 5 stars for this ACTUAL ACCOUNT
