Liz Carlyle writes fully fleshed-out characters with heart and depth. The story is about Evangeline, a painter who is also raising her younger siblings and a cousin, and Elliot, a dissolute marquis posing as an untitled gentleman. The romance builds slowly as they meet with a misunderstanding and most of the book is the story of them falling in love but both of them hiding something.

This book, as with the other Liz Carlyle book I read, peters out a bit toward the end. While the characters are engaging and memorable, Carlyle takes too long to reach a resolution. There is too much inner dialogue and not enough action. That said, it is still a wonderful and well written book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading.
