COMMENTS: Sweet romance. Sara's from a poor family on the other side of the creek and has been taught the art of healing and herbs from her grandfather. Dru is a medical physician from a family w/ money and name. The 2 fall in love but their marriage seems to be over before it had a chance when Dru decides to join the confederate troops and fight in the Civil War. One of the local soldiers returns and tells Sara and the town that Dru has died. After a period of mourning Sara takes off w/ a Yankee soldier only to return later w/ a baby. Soon after her husband Dru also returns home, altho' he was presumed dead he wasn't and went thru a period of amnesia and then couldn't get any communications to his wife or sister. Their marriage at this point is very tenuous and Sara won't accept Dru until he can love her and her child w/ an open heart and forgiveness.
