Carol Mossman, living alone in the desert, was shot with an antique gun. Her trailer had grown so hot that her 17 dogs also died. As Sheriff Joanna Brady follows various leads, two more murders are discovered. Could a still more dastardly secret lie behind the mayhem? Joanna must also deal with her personal life and illegal immigrants, run for reelection, and face an animal activist group. Plenty to think about here, but Jance manages to keep the atmosphere positive and the action moving.
