Malcolm X was only thirty-nine years old when he was killed, but he had been a spokesman for African-Americans everywhere in the United States. He made black people aware of two important strengths: self-love and self-reliance.

Malcolm's life was never an easy one. His father died when he was a young boy, and his mother became ill soon after. It wasn't long before Malcolm was getting into trouble. As a young teenager, he was placed in a detention home. He was in prison by the time he was twenty years old.

The story of the life of Malcolm X tells how he changed from being a confused and unhappy young man--a criminal--to being a respected leader in the worldwide struggle to achieve equality for all peoples of color.
