After witnessing a murder, Jennifer Chaise is running for her life from her boyfriend, wealthy businessman Nick Noble, afraid she is going to be next on his hit list. Hiding out in Boulder City, she shaves her head, buys some old clothes, and takes a job as a waitress at a diner called The Tin Cup. The townspeople believe she is just down on her luck, but Detective Alex Nichols figures she is trying to disappear from her old life and wonders what her story is. When Nick's bodyguards show up in town flashing her picture, Jennifer worries that her time may soon be up.

This book is a departure from Carr's Virgin River series. Jennifer is Nick's mistress and is unapologetic about her lifestyle. As the story progresses and Jennifer makes friends and meets various people at the diner, she realizes how empty her old life was. This is a contemporary romance, but while the romance is interesting, it almost takes a backseat to the incredible supporting characters in the book. We have and elderly professor with her elderly dog; a flashy but aging stripper, a teenager whose life reminds Jennifer of her childhood, and the owner of the local diner who makes sure the poor in the community have a hot meal. I highly recommend this book. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
