Mary Lee Clayton is widowed, broke and pregnant when she comes home to run her dad's motor court along a busy New Mexico highway. She has to put up with her drunken mother and her disreputable friends as well as fight off forclosure. She makes friends, kind neighbors, a thirteen year old drifter who would die for her, and Jake Ramero, a man whose disarming green eyes awaken emotions she has never felt before.
