Greek Tragedies, Vol 1
tracymar avatar reviewed Excellent greek drama! on + 408 more book reviews

This volume, which I used in my Greek mythology classes for years, contains excellent translations of some of the most important Greek classics. As a teacher, I found Oedipus the King and Antigone to be of most interest to my students, because of the important philosophical and moral questions they raise. The Agamemnon, less readable, is still an important introduction to the Oresteia trilogy, and Prometheus Bound raises thought-provoking questions about the courage and consequences of standing up to powerful authority. Whether read in the context of their times or read with application to issues today, these are all must-read classic dramas.
