I read this book for a TBR potluck challenge in my online book club, The Reading Cove.

It was a daunting doorstopper at nearly 1,000 pages and I read other books in-between, but this book was a non-stop, at times heart-pounding, saga of life, passion, treachery, manipulation, vengeance, perseverance - all the facets of life.

It's an extremely well-told story set in 13th century Europe, but primarily in England. And the characters are unforgettable. I came to know and love Tom Builder, Ellen, Jack, Aliena, and Prior Philip; meanwhile abhorring the likes of Alfred, William Hamleigh and Bishop Waleran.

A fabulously engaging read, I give it a definite A! Highly recommended!
