I think this is the best of this Botswana-set series so far. Speedy Motors now has more customers than they can handle, and the detective agency is doing brisk business. Mma Ramotswe is frightened by an intruder in her home who manages to escape without her identifying him, and the next day a pumpkin is left on her porch. Charlie, the elder of the two apprentices, finds a sugar mama and resigns in a fit of pique. While investigating Charlie, Mma Ramotswe's van hits a man on a bicycle, and they end up hiring him to replace the apprentice. Mma Makutsi takes up ballroom dancing in hopes of meeting a man, but finds herself paired with a gentleman who has two left feet and a bad stutter. Then Mma Ramotswe's ex-husband Note Mokoti comes back to town, with a threat that endangers her happiness. This volume is more lively than the ones that have come before, with new characters and further development of the regulars. It's another pleasing addition to this cozy series.
