Unless we find a replacement for oil, we are in big trouble. The book does have some flaws, but makes several points worth repeating.

The author discredits hydrogen fuel economy, because of the inability to find clean (non-coal) sources to create hygrogen fuel for cars, homes, ect. No mention of gas hydrate 3,000 year supply estimated or fusion. (estimated 5 to 50 years away from commercial production, if fusion ever works. The company General fusion estimates 5 years away!)

Finding replacements for all of the chemicals and plastics that we derive from oil will be a challenge. Oil helps us create a massive amount of work that can be done. Finding a replacement for it will be hard and we need to start now to work to replace all of the products we get from oil.

Hopefully things will not get as bleak as what it pointed out in the book, then again, we need to prepare for a change. We are very lucky to have cheap sources of energy. Hopefullly fusion and hydrogen will be able to replace oil for our energy needs. If not, we are in trouble. Cheap energy is half the problem, we have to find replacements for all of the petroleum derived products like asphalt and plastics.
