Unlike many fad diet books, the advice in this book is backed by at least some scientific evidence. The author cites actual studies, and makes a persuasive logical case for the idea, though some of what he talks about leans towards the "woo" end of the spectrum.

This really isn't a "diet" book at all, it is more advice for a permanent change in general eating habits. There are some recipes in the book that look really, really good (I will start trying them soon). If I were to point to one central idea, it is that processed, pre-packaged foods are full of hidden "bad" fats and "empty" calories, and should be avoided at all costs. But, the book is much more than that as well.

If I have a criticism, it is that the author talks about counseling patients about how to make more time in their daily lives to do the cooking they need to do at home. It would have been helpful if he had elaborated on that for those of us who usually have no time to cook.
