Betsy Devonshire has become like an old friend, and a return trip to her Crewel World shop in Minnesota is always a relaxing, enjoyable interlude. Betsy's Monday Bunch group member Doris Valentine has just returned from a vacation to Thailand. She shows them a small stone Buddha that she agreed to deliver to a local antiques dealer for an American silk factory owner she met in Thailand. But the dealer is found dead the next day, the Buddha missing, and Doris's apartment trashed. Then an attempt is made on Doris's life, and an alarmed Betsy must solve the mystery soon if her friend is to survive.

An enjoyable a cozy as the rest of the series, this one nevertheless had more non-sequitur interludes than usual, which seemed to be included just for filler and perhaps some attempt at character development. However, as they stopped short of being boring and did not slow down the pace of the story too much, I didn't mind and was able to finish this in a day.
