This was a very good and engaging book. Teetoncey means "small" in the Outer Bank (North Carolina) dialect spoken in the book, and indeed she was a little girl washed ashore following a shipwreck in 1898. Cared for by 12 year old Ben O'Neal and his mother, Teetoncey soon recovered from her injuries but never spoke, and became an increasing frustration--and fascination--to Ben. The prose is descriptive, the scenes are alternating tender and exciting, the "voice" of young Ben is very truthful.

This book is the first of a trilogy, and I cannot wait to dive into Part 2.

***1/2 Three and a half stars!
