The story takes place in less than two days and has Richard Temperley pulled into the chase for a serial killer who leaves behind an enameled letter "Z" near his victims. Temperley is there for the first murder and sees a beautiful young woman leaving the scene. He decides to track her down and soon is following her in a cross-country chase as the police follow him. One of the earliest of the serial killer mysteries and enjoyable.
