The night is not complete without a dream of you
The day is a loss without a thought or call
You fill my fantasies like knights of old
Strong, faithful and giving their all

Times are changed, places are moved
Reasons given and sadness shown
I hear and understand, accept and smile
A few tears are shed, but nothing thrown

Some say you can’t have your cake and eat it too
Although we all seem to try
Some even accomplish the feat, if only for a while
But when found out, hearts break and one or both will cry

There comes a time when the truth finally arrives
Whether we like it or not
We find we aren’t as important as we thought
And see that we are just a piece of the lot

But memories are pleasant
And thoughts of the past make us smile
We still hope for the future
Love never dies, only sleeps for a while

Secrets never last and life has a way
Of returning to us that which we give
I hope the price we pay is fair
And with the results, we can live.

I think that its hard to capture thoughts that have depth and feeling within verse and rhyme. You've succeeded in not letting the 'rhyme and rule' take away from the emotion and thought of the peice. I would love to see your writing without these limits - I bet it would be wonderful. But I still like what you did here.
