Between Scarsdale and Hartsdale
there is a stream
trying hard to be a river
it's pushing granite on one side
shiny train tracks on the other

Does it think about the cars
or the power lines above it
about the people on metro-north
or the frogs that have gone quiet
I'd like to think it does
as I doze into the city

Little guy keep going
carry on and get bigger
at least in a few down-stream miles
you'll meet your older cousin
who once thought he was a river
