While requesting books I've had a number of instances where the labels are printed, but the books aren't mailed until 21 days are up. Perhaps it's time for PBS to shorten the 21-day time period for mailing, put into effect when Covid was rampant and deadly. Either that or PBS needs to tell members that waiting 21 days to mail the book wasn't a requirement.  laugh

And i think that's why i'm getting more time outs...they forget because they have so long to actually mail the book.

21 days is ridiculous ....several of us addressed this madness months ago. I'm sure no one has to wait over a week any longer to go to the PO after wrapping a pkg. and many of us reuse packing envelopes so less likely to 'run out' of supplies unless it's tape or printer ink or paper.

I haven't had any issue with books timing-out and I personally like the longer option. I've had some books wrapped and ready to be taken to the Post Office for a week but I've had family issues and health issues keep popping up. The longer wait means I have until next week to mail them when things will hopefully be calmer and I don't have to cancel the orders. At least having the option of picking a shorter or longer timeline like we used to have would be nice.

I like having 21 days. Sometimes I need the extra days because I can't mail the book out right away.

I'm happy that TPTB have not reverted back to the old time frame. I like the extended time better. It works for me :)  I still try to get books out within a week after they are requested.

Well, the person who accepted and printed the label on THREE books I requested, and didn't mail them for 21 days, is out three credits. I just got the notice  the requests were canceled. Makes me wonder if there was a problem besides just not mailing them.

Yes, I agree 100%. Three weeks is ridiculous.  The Printed postage is easy to use, and come on, life must go on.  At least cut it back to maybe 10 days?  I've had several books time out recently, it's very annoying. If you're afraid to go to the PO, then don't join PBS.

Another issue with this delayed mailing allowance....we have people here complain frequently about recipients not marking books received in a timely manner, but when someone accepts your order then waits ten to 16 days to mail, any travel you have coming up almost assures that person will be fussing if /when you arent home by the time the book arrives 20-30 days after the order was accepted. You shouldnt have to put your account on vaca hold for a month or more id you are going on a short trip.

I asked the Admin Team about this, and they said that they are planning to end the pandemic extended deadlines, but that they have to wait until their programmers tell them that there's a big enough window to do that. I guess it's a complex change, the programmers are probably dealing with other whack-a-mole stuff.

My area still has a rising incidence of the new virus variant. The problem might be linked to vacination and to the few people willing to wear masks in public. Nonetheless people in my county and state are getting sick and some are dying. I don't mind the wait.

I might be changing my mind on this issue. I requested a book on 31 Dec 2022, the label was printed on 1Jan 2023. Here it is 13 Jan 2023 and it hasn't been mailed and it can wait until 21 Jan to get mailed. Maybe 14 days would, should, could be enough?

After a long wait for the book to be mailed, the USPS claims it's out for delivery today in my informed delivery email. Well let's hope the postie makes it through the ice and snow.

From the QTS about PBS thread that PBS posted in the ' relaxed mailing schedule' topic due to covid in April 2020, "For those members who have an already-accepted request that hasn't been marked mailed, your deadline to mark mailed has changed (to the date on which you accepted the request + 21 days). Please check your My Account page to see your deadlines for mailing."

As I understand this, for a WL book, sender has 4 days to mark 'accepted' after I accept the offer within 48 hours, then 21 days after that to mail?  But 3 WL books I just posted and marked 'I can mail' within 24 hours of wisher accepting, gave me ' mail by' dates of 14 days later. did PBS post somewhere that mailing is now only 14 days?????  Just want to be clear  about it

Jeanne,

If you look at the top RED thread in this forum, PBS hasn't changed it from 21 days.

What I posted WAS copied from the red post by PBS.

What I'm saying is that the reality of what is happening no longer matches the RED rule that is posted. IRL PBS is only giving 14 days to mail now so I think they should post that.

If that's the case, it would be nice to be told. Instead of it being hidden in a file on one forum.

Reminds me of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," when the Earth was destroyed to make way for an intergalatic bypass. The day it was destroyed and Earth complained, the aliens told Earth you had eight months to file a dispute, as the notice of Earth's destruction was posted outside the office of the Galactic Empire's Highway Department. The only problem being that department's office was on a planet many light years from Earth.

Anyway, I'm not sure the new rule is being enforced, as I've had requests recently accept and amost 20 days have gome by and they are still not mailed.

I just noticed this today... I might be going to cancel a book order because I ordered it on the 26th and they have untill the 19th to mail... It says accepted.

In that almost month's time frame the chances of me finding the book in the half price bookstore increases.. previously the 5 days or now I'm forgetting if it was 5 or 6 or 7... The chances of me finding the book in a week was pretty slim but give me 3 and a 1/2 weeks and it's not a slim anymore...

Just an observation..

It must have gone back to 2wks. I posted books today, the 2nd. They came up as requests on my account page with a note asking if I could mail by the 16th. So that's 2 wks again.
