I ordered a book 6 days ago and my account still says "waiting for member" with the original date and time of request.  In the past, when a book has "timed out", the date and time of request changed to the time at which the system moved the book on to the next person in line.  I'm wondering what's up with the delay.   Does anyone know what I'm missing here?

You actually get an extra two days to respond to requests beyond the original 5 days.  Their time isn't up yet.

This is from the Help Center;  After 5 days, it goes to the next in line.

What if the sender does not respond within 5 days?

  • If there is another copy of the book available:
    • your request will automatically be passed along to a new sender.
    • This will happen at the end of the 5th day  (in the middle of the night)
    • You will not get an email notifying you if this happens.
  • If there is not another copy of the book available:
    • the request will be canceled
    • you will get your credit back
    • the book will go onto your Wish List automatically.
    • You will get an email notifying you if this happens.

So the rules from the Help Center state 5 days, but its actaully 7?  I was just going to post the same question.  I have a Wish List book that was accepted and the person chose the latest possible date to mail and it now states 'Will Mail by 9/5 at 11pm.'  Well, its now past 9/5 and the person hasn't marked it mailed.  I can't cancel or I will lost my place in line and other WL copies are popping up but I'm tied up with this book.  How frustrating!! Why would someone post a WL book and then not send it out, even after they marked it 'Will Mail by x/x date'?  This person has many transactions and have been a member for a long time.  Do you think I should PM them??

So, when exactly will I get put back into the WL line-up??  9/7 at 11pm??

It is actually only 5 days as Help Center says!!   After the member clicks "will mail the book", they have 5 days to mail.  If they don't, PBS will cancel automatically. Check your Transaction Archive after the 5th day and hour is up and see if it was marked cancelled.  If so, it will go to the next in line and you will still be 1st on the WL;  ETA: ACTUALLY TO ORDER A BOOK AND TO SEND A BOOK ARE TWO DIFFERENT RULES

The Help Center sez::::

How long does a sender have to mail the book after accepting a request?

It depends on which button the sender clicks when accepting a request.

  • If the sender clicks
    • He or she has 5 more days before the transaction must be marked mailed.
    • If the sender clicks "I can mail in the next 2 days" the Status of the transaction on the request on the requestor's  account page will read "Accepted".
  • If the sender clicks
    • The book must be marked mailed by 2 days after the alternate mail-by date chosen.
    • If a sender clicks "I can mail later" the status of the transaction on the request on the requestor's  account page will show "Will Mail by:" and the alternate mailby date chosen.
  • If a book is not marked mailed by the deadline
    • The request will cancel automatically, and will be passed along to another member offering a copy of the same book.
      • the requestor will NOT get an email when this happens.
      • the requestor will be able to tell that the request has passed along because the request date will have changed.
    • If there is no other copy of the book available, the book will go back onto the requestor's Wish List and the requestor will get the credit back.
      • the requestor WILL get an email when this happens.

Exactly the same things will happen if the sender clicks or on a request.

Note: The deadline for each transaction appears in RED on the right-hand side of the transaction on the sender's account.

If any one has a current transaction that they haven't marked mailed yet, look at the red date to the right of the mail by date...it's two dates later than the mail by date that you choose.

From the Help Center -

Your deadline to mark a book mailed appears in red on the transaction for the book on your My Account page

    • The deadline will be 11:00 PM ET, 5 days after the acceptance date if you click "I can mail within two days" when accepting the request
    • The deadline will be 11:00 PM ET, 2 days after the alternate mail-by date you choose if you click "I can mail LATER" when accepting the request

If you request a book and the sender never accepts, the request gets moved along in the middle of the night following the 5th full day. So if you order a book at 9:00 AM on a Sunday, it will be moved to the next sender in the middle of Friday night. If you're on your second sender, he/she gets another 5 full days, but since he got the request about 1 minute after the start of the day, he actually gets almost 6 full days, so in the example above, you wouldn't move on to the third sender until the middle of Thursday night.

I am in same position. The 5 days should have been up at noon today. When I check that person's shelf there are 81 books listed. Yet, if I look at their WL, it comes up that they ae no longer an account holder. So, eventually the request will pass on to someone else (there were 3 copies in the system so I will get the next one - I hope).
