This is a compilation of letters, articles, and journal entries by Boukreev, a mountaineer who was on Mt. Everest at the time of the fatal 1996 expeditions. Boukreev survived that climb, only to die on Christmas Day 1997 on an expedition to Annapurna. This book helps explain the appeal and risks of mountain climbing, as well as Boukreev's beliefs about training.
