How do you add a book to your wish list if it isn't published yet?  For example, a book to be published in November 2007, would I just need the ISBN number?  Is it like posting your books?  Can it even be done?

Is this a dumb question?  Help!!!!!!

Thanks,

Donna

Good question!  I know that it can be done.  I had Harry Potter #7 WL before it came out.  I just don't know how someone got it on there.

Unless,  they posted it like they were offering.  Took it off of their shelf.  and WL it.

The site uses a database to add titles and ISBN numbers as they become available.  So, if a book is in the database, you can search unposted books or wl books for a title or ISBN #.  I usually have more luck with ISBN #'s for some reason.  I just copy them from Amazon.com or Fantasticfiction.com

I went to the Barnes & Noble site and copied the isbn then put in the search space up top and when the book came up hit wish

I dont know if there is an easier way but this worked for me.

Yes, most on my WL aren't out yet. Go to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Stop You're killing me, Fantastic Fiction look up coming soon books an get the ISBN and look it up. Then you can see how many are already on the wish list to know if it's worth the wait or decide to buy it yourself.

Donna; get the ISBN# from any book site like Barnes & Noble, or what works better, the author's website.  Then put the ISBN# in Advanced Search.  That's all there is to it; the name of the book comes up.  I have a few books on my WL  that aren't published yet.

Sometimes you have to keep trying, too. I have the names of several books not yet published but that haven't yet been assigned an ISBN so you have to keep checking Amazon or the publisher's website. Criminy, I think about a third to a half of the books on my WL are ones that haven't been released yet! LOL

Edited to add: "Only posted books" is the default on search settings so make sure when you do a search on the ISBN to change that via the drop down menu to "all books" so that if the ISBN is in the database, the book will show up. Then you click on it, and click the "wishlist" button just like any other book not available in the system.

If the book isn't in the system yet, you could "save" your search as  way to remind yourself to perodically check on it again.  I do that all the time - if you search under advanced search, at the bottom of the screen is a "save this search" button.

Well, this probably isn't "legal" but I was trying to WL a book that was released in Europe recently but not in America. When I entered the ISBN it found nothing to match. So I went to my TBR and clicked Add Book to TBR. I entered the ISBN again and nothing... For some reason it took me to the Post Books screen and I entered the ISBN and it again found nothing, but when I clicked post this book it came up with the 13 digit ISBN and had me enter the book info, title, author, dimensions, etc. Well, I clicked submit or whatever and it actually POSTED the book, not to my TBR but to the book pool... Well I deleted it from my shelf so it wasn't requested then added it to my WL. So I am first in line for it now at least. Just a really roundabout way of getting it there.

I too don't know if it's technically legal to do that, Jennifer, but I do know the one time I did exactly the same thing, before I could get to my bookshelf page to delete it from my account, someone had seen it pop up on the recently posted screen and ordered the blooming thing!!! So, of course, I had to red-facedly apologies for not actually having the book when I had to cancel. Lousy luck! hahahahaha
