An outstanding biography of a man not well known by to many Americans.

Very informative account of the life of Alexander Hamilton from his birth in the West Indies to his rise in politics in the United States. You will begin to understand his volatile relationship with Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Aaron Burr. Also that history has forgotten almost all that Hamilton accomplished and established for the good of the United States.

One the of best biographies I have read, engaging as well as informative. The CD version is excellent as well. This book made me realize that politics were as partisan and obnoxious in the past as they are now. The only good thing about politics in this forum is that we get to know the historical figures who are living and breathing the politics really well and come to understand their motivations, whether or not we support them. I must say the most surprising thing that resulted from my read is that I am no longer a fan of Thomas Jefferson!!!

Highly recommended.

A thorough and intersting chronicle of the times in early political America, especially the approach to financial matters. Perfect for this era where finances are so difficult.

The book humanizes what were, after all, real people in real times, minus today's technology. So, like rag-time, the pace is slower and more rythmical, but many of the ideas of their day remain true today.

Unlike the other reviewer, I remain a fan of TJ, and I am also a fan of my own ancestors, including Benjamin Rush.

An illegitimate son...an immigrant...and the architect of the United States' Federal Reserve. The most successful immigrant despite the myth of the American Dream.
