First and foremost, this series has great characters with believable motivations and reactions. The crimes may sometimes be violent but they've serve the intricate plots well and aren't gratuitous. The books are all from David Silver's pov - he's a police detective partnered with two cops: Mel (sarcastic and flirtatious) and String (an alien Elaki detective). If you don't like your crime novels mixed with alien characters or technology, please don't be put off - these are great police/crime novels! But it is science fiction (hey, a near future setting and an Earth-habitating alien race?) but now that I've read all four books in this series, I want to make it clear that these books come off first as police or crime stories. I promise you, read any of the books and you'll feel like you just watched the police half of Law & Order. This author writes GREAT crime thrillers and it's clear that's what she did here, too, just added a convincing alien tangent. Highly recommended.
