t is rare for me to give only 3 stars. i loved reading the acknowledgements at the end and when i'm not reading on my kindle, i always go there first, to get a lay of the land. but i didn't with this book and i'm sorry for that. i think i would have liked to know how personal this was and what a tribute it was to the fragile condition of the author's mental health.
and to everyone who suffers this way. it was hard to like Regan. it was easier to like Aldo. it was impossible to like Regan's mother. it was easy to love Aldo's father. the museum settings were wonderful, as were the park and roof moments. this book is intense, and scary and difficult. having been trained in psychology and counseling, both Regan and Aldo's behaviors were recognizable to me. we absolutely need a wider consciousness around the needs of all humans who suffer inside their heads.
