So, recently, I requested a book for a friend.  Actually, all my requests are for other people, which contributes to my confusion immensely, lol!

Anyway, because the books are never for me, I sometimes get super lazy and just mark it received without looking too closely.  This one was a hardcover.  I got it, marked it and thought it was over.  I got a paperback.  Oops, sender's bad, sure, but my bad for not looking!  Now my friend (I'm sure she's still my friend) wants me to get the hardcover.   Soooo (yes, there's a point coming!) I requested it again and got the little red box that says "You already requested this book on...".

Which made me wonder.  One teacher I request for asked for something unusual.  She wants 35 copies of Who Moved My Cheese?  Worse, if this works out, she says she might want them every semester.  Oy.  Whatever!  :-)  Is there a point where PBS is going to think I'm insane?  There's 138 or thereabouts listed, and I'm sure the people holding them won't mind (especially number 138), but it suddenly occurred to me that, if PBS is "looking"... well, do they CARE?

They might wonder why you want that many copies of one book!!  I've requested a few books, I had them before and sent them on, but was in the mood to read them again recently, and I received the message with each of the books I requested (it was 4 different ones).  As long as it's not for the purpose of selling them, nobody should mind--especially, as you pounted out, #138, as teh books will be moving out

No Institutional Membership Membership is permitted for individuals only. No organization, institution or other association may become a member or participate of the service.

That might be why they would care about that many of the same book.

I would sure send R&R a message and see what they had to say about it.

Listen to the wise Cozi.... send R&R a message and let them know you are doing this as a gift for a teacher friend.... to many of the same books ordered puts up a red flag and your account can be closed.

Hmm - the "no institutional membership" bit is interesting - I had a book requested recently from a library system in California.  Included in their conditions was a statement that their membership was approved by R&R.  I thought the whole thing was a little odd, but I liked the idea that my book, which I had a hard time parting with, was going to a library where many people might read it.

Thanks all!  Maybe I can just point out the Institutional rule as an excuse, lol!  If I decide to try to help her out, I'll most definitely talk to R&R first.

That IS kinda cool!

This happened to me twice-the first time, I knew I had requested a copy before.  Although it was postable, it was an older, worn book, so when I saw another copy available, I upgraded.

The second time, I had forgotten that I had requested and received it already, so this feature saved me a credit!  (if you saw how many books I have in my collection you'd understand why I sometimes get duplicates by mistake, lol)!
