An exciting tale of what could have been, or maybe it was? Interesting drama.
I really love Mary Jo Putney books. It was fun to buy a new one at the store that looked so tempting. A great genuine romance with a great hero and heroine.
The story develops down a realistic path and it was a nice change to have a doctor as the main love interest instead of a of the usual brash Lord or rogue. He does unexpectedly inherit which adds multiple layers of drama to a great tale. The twists and excitement take you right to the end. Well done once again Mary Jo! I realized afterwards that I had purchased the 7th of the Lost Lords series and had only read the first 3 so now I can't wait to read #4-6!

I liked this book even though it seemed that Jessie had more skeletons in her closet than an undertaker. It started to get real old that every time something good happened another one would jump out and yell Boo! The real hero was her now husband and the title should be Yes, He is a Saint, due to all he has put up with just to get her to tell the whole truth and in to bed. Well written and very easy to read, I admire that about her writing style.
I had mixed feelings about this book I've always liked Mary Jo Putney's books, and I do like this one -- but, that said, it has some of the current series tropes that have come to bore me so much -- the "family reunions", the walk-ons by characters from previous books -- all the references to previous books which don't move the present story forward. Between skipping boring reunions and repetitive by the numbers sex scenes, there is little room left for story today. I don't mean this as a criticism of this author; *everybody* stuck with doing series now has the same problems.
So for me the book was a bit bland, a bit disappointing. I thought it was carried mostly by the author's very smooth and pleasant writing style; it *is* a pleasure to read prose by someone who knows what she's doing. So 5 stars for the prose, 3 stars for the rest of it.
