For me, there are two types of books: The ones I keep on my night table to read a few chapters each night, and the ones that I carry all over the house to read whenever I have a few minutes to spare. This book surely falls into the latter category. It grips in the first few pages and never lets go. The high level of suspense is maintained throughout the story. The characters are riveting, and one of the supporting characters, Clayton, is hilarious. His character evolves throughout the story, and some of his dialogue at the end of the book had me laughing out loud a few times. Highly recommend. Feel free to email with any questions. ~LeAnn

This was a fascinating story with a total surprise ending. On an island off the coast of Virginia is a psychiatric facility for former intelligence officers who know too much. The problem is one of them is not crazy. He finds a way to escape and then discovers all mention of him has been erased. He is a man who doesn't exist and even his face is unfamiliar to him. As he struggles to determine what happened to him over a two year span of time and to recover memories of who is he he must evade people bent on killing him. As he travels from Canada to France and ultimately to Switzerland he discovers a vicious plat to assassinate a world leader which will certainly result in a world war. Can he stop the assassination in time and find out what happened to him and why? Its a real thrill ride that kept me reading late into the night.

Hal Amber, a former CIA operative, has been kept at a secure isolated location for the insane. Deeply medicated, he has been "eraced", with the help of a nurse he escape to find his past. This is another internation thriller from the master of the genre. I really liked the ending.

This is an interesting story but is dragged out far beyond what's necessary to convey it. I found myself skipping a lot toward the end as much of it was superfluous to the story. The outcome was not a surprise.

I would have rated this a 5 star except it is a little rambling but half-way through starts really going and ends with a big surprise!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I picked up at the airport on my way out of town and never put it down....from my flight to my destination, while on vacation and even on the way back on my flight home. Fast-paced thriller with engaging spy/hero and lots of action. Highly recommend.

Another decent quick read. Thriller contains medical experiments, para-military organizations, conspiracies, double-crosses, action, etc. The story moves right along, with some of the major points being fairly predictable, and certain "twists" not making much sense. Still more fun than good.

THis novels stays close to Ludlum's 'Bourne' style. The readers interests is kept through out the book. A very good read if you like this genre and Ludlum.

So pretty good twists and turns in the typical Robert Ludlum style. Good character development and a surprise ending that I didn't see coming. Sometimes Ludlum seems to ramble a little and I had to skim those parts, but all-in-all, a good, if somewhat long, read.

copyright 2005. Published after his death but this takes nothing away from the typical Ludlum thriller. Better than some I've read.

On Parrish Island, off the coast of Virginia, lies a psychiatric facility. Far from prying eyes, it is a government-run hospital for former intelligence employees in possession of highly classified information. Former Consular Operations agent Hal Ambler is one of these patients whose mind is filled with secrets of state-and is considered such a security risk that he is kept heavily medicated and closely watched. But there's one critical difference between Ambler and the other patients: Ambler isn't crazy. Now he must find a way to escape the facility, find out who put him there, and uncover the truth of who he was...and why someone is willing to risk everything to see him dead.
