I absolutely adore Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake Vampire Series, I know some people don't like the newer books but I am a loyal fan, especially when it comes to Jean-Claude. ;) I can't stand Anita herself, though, and I was wondering, does anybody out there dislike Anita as much as I do??? And which females of the books DO they like??

I liked Anita much better in the first few books. I've been getting alittle bored with her. I would love to read more of Jean-Claude. It seems to me (this is only my opinion) that Anita is getting stronger than Jean-Claude and he's sorta taken a backseat to her. I don't want this to happen in the next book.

I agree. I wish Jean-Claude's power level would up and Anita's would tone down a few meters. I liked her up to about book 8 or 9, but then I started getting frustrated with her.

If Anita were a real person, I'd drop her as a friend. She's an incredible control-freak, hates showing her emotions, has to be right, can be a real b*&$%, selfish, etc. What's worse, she knows what her weaknesses are and that gets her cranky and she takes it out on everyone else. Despite how I sometimes wish I could wring her neck or slap her, I also love reading the series. I also like Hamilton's Merry Gentry series, Merry is a much nicer character and it's a relief to read after going through Anita angst central! However, I am looking forward to the next installment, Blood Noir, this June!!

I love the anita blake books.  I liked anita in the beginning books but she's starting annoying me.  But I've heard that the last couple of books are getting better (I have them, but haven't read them yet).

I have loved Anita from the beginning, but I agree that there are moments that I want to smack her. I think that is just a testament to the writing talent of LKH that she can make me feel so strongly about her characters. I'm wishing that we could go back to the way the earlier books were where it was more about the mystery and the relationships and less about Anita gaining more and more power.

When it comes to other girls that I like.... Are there other girls in the series? >.> Bad joke, I know. I actually have a liking for Cherry and Charlotte Zeeman kicks butt (even if Richard makes me want throw him off a cliff).
