The Annual Sermon preached at the request and in behalf of the American... more » Sunday-School Union, on the 15th of May, in the Central Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, by the Rev. Georgb Potts, D. D., of New York, was heard with more than ordinary interest by an intelligent and crowded assembly. Hundred came too late to find a vacant seat, and for their sake, as well as for the pleasure and profit of the public generally, we are happy to say that the sermon will be published. The services attending the 29th Anniversary of the American Sunday-School Union were held May 17, 1853, and were of unusual interst. In the absence of the President, whose official duties required his presence in Ohio, Judge Darling, of Reading, Pennsylvania, one of the Vice-Presidents, occupied the chair. An appropriate devotional exercise was conducted by the Rev. Thomas S. Malcom, of the Baptist Church, which was succeeded by the reading of a few paragraphs of the Annual Report. The Rev. Mr. Jenkins, of the Wesleyan Church, Canada, offered a resolution for the adoption of the Annual Report, which was seconded by Prof. Warner, of Amherst College, Mass., and passed. Rev. Mr. Peterkin, of New Jersey, offered and advocated the following resolution:— "Resolved, That the Sunday-school, as a Missionary Instrumentality, is one of the most efficient and economical which can be employed in our land." Which was seconded by Rev. Mr. Gillespie, of the Presbyterian Church, Tennessee, and passed. Rev. Mr. Kirk, of the Congregational Church, Massachusetts, offered and advocated the following resolution:— "Resolved, That in view of the essential aid which the American Sunday-School Union is rendering to the cause...« less
