My nephew wants those cakes baked in ice cream cones--you know, that look like ice cream but are really cake.  He wants to take them into school for his birthday treat.  Can those be made ahead of time?  The recipe my SIL has says to make them the same day, but we'd like to do it at least a day ahead. Any thoughts?

There may just be concerns about moisture

I have never made them but what about waiting to put the icing on till the day of.

Just make them in the evening the day before. They have to cool anyways before they are iced so it cant hurt

I made these for my DD to take to preschool on her 4th birthday.  They were a huge hit.  I would not make them the day before, because like a pp said, the cones will get soggy from the cake.

I had found several ways to make them.  I was going to put the batter in the cone and then bake it that way, but they were never very "full" looking.  It would have taken alot of icing to make them look like an ice cream cone.  Then I found a suggestion to put the batter in a well Pam'ed muffin tin (fill about 2/3 full) then place the cone upside down on top of the batter.  Wrap the end of the cone with foil and bake.  They turned out wonderful and actually looked like a scoop of ice cream on a cone.  Frost with icing and cover with sprinkles!
