Blake Crouch

JA Conrath

Jack Kilborn

I am looking for recommendations on anything by these authors. I have a few titles picked out, but can not decide. Has anyone read any books by these folks?

Other than a few shorts stories, all I have read by Crouch are Abandoned, which I absolutely loved, Snowbound, which was good, and Serial, which was a short novella. I have a lot of his other stuff, but haven't got to it yet.

Konrath and Kilborn are the same person.  I've read all except the last two Jack Daniels novels.  If you like Evanovich, you will like them as they are humorous crime novels, but they are more serious than hers and they really need to be read in order.  I've also read Origins, and a number of shorts he has done. As Kilborn, I have read Afraid, which was very good.

I have more to read from these  authors, just have too many books and not enough time.

I'm sorry that I didn't see this thread earlier.  If you are still interested in recommendations, I have read quite a lot by these authors and consider myself a fan.  I would suggest Origin and then Afraid for Konrath.  Also, his Jack Daniels mysteries are good.  I'm not a big mystery buff, but the series is more "Silence of the Lambs" than Miss Marple.

I haven't read as much of Blake Crouch's work, but one by him that I really enjoyed was Run.  I don't generally reread books, but this one I did, and may even go for a third read.  The story is a strong and intense survival/apocalypse tale but, as much as I enjoyed that part of it, I also found some deeper meaning in the novel that really moved me (although I have read other reviews that make me think that the majority of readers don't take away as much as I did from the book...I really can't explain why)

I hope that, if you have already read some of these authors, you enjoyed them.  I have found that some of their work crosses a line and seems a little too much like hard-core splatter-porn for my taste (particularly Konrath/Kilborn), while their other works got the mix of gore & suspense just right. If you had a similar experience with what you've read so far, you might try the novels I mentioned, which I feel like they got just right.

Thanks, your taste sounds like mine. I have had Origin on my audio wish list for some time, now I think I will make a move! And I'll definitely check out the others.

Sorry for late reply but I love the serial killer novels.  I have not read Origin but I have it and 6 other novels.  Very exciting action.  Not much on the Horror but great on suspense and action!

I've read quite a few of their books.  Here are my opinions on the ones I've read.

I love Pines by Blake Crouch, which is the first of a trilogy if you like it.  The second book is Wayward, which I also enjoyed, then finally The Last Town, which I didn't think was quite as good as the previous two.  Here's my thoughts on others I've read by Crouch and/or Kilborn/Konrath:

Run/Blake Crouch - Loved it

Snowbound/Blake Crouch - Pretty good

Desert Places/Blake Crouch- Very good

Locked Doors/Blake Crouch-sequel to Desert Places, pretty gory and I thought over-the-top

Stirred/Blake Crouch & Konrath-again too over-the-top for me and not believable.

Fully Loaded Thrillers/Blake Crouch-short stories, some good, some bad

Abandon/Blake Crouch-I didn't like it, boring and told in a western-ish vein.

Endurance/Kilborn-torture porn novel, very over-the-top, didn't like it, poor editing

Killers Uncut/Crouch & Kilborn-short stories, I didn't like it

Serial Uncut/Crouch & Kilborn-same as Killers Uncut with some of the same stories

Hope some of these are helpful!
