I was torn between feeling sorry for Anna and feeling digusted over her self-pity and negativity towards herself. Of course not living in that period of time, I'm sure it's difficult for me to understand how a woman would tolerate her husband's mistress bedding him just down the hall from where she slept! On the other side  I can also feel towards the end Otille's frustration and pain. It was well told.
