FINISHED -

  1. "DRIVE  YOU WILD" by Jennifer Bernard (Love Between the Bases #3) (A+++++) Kilby Catfish left-fielder Trevor Stark is a ballpark legend. With his good looks, hitting records, and played-for-the-fans arrogance, Trevor makes women lose their minds and men lose their cool. But every time the major league team comes calling, Trevor purposely keeps himself in the tiny Texas town. Why is heart-tuggingly top secret. Until the team owner’s daughter comes to Kilby...trying everything up her sexy sleeve to make Trevor talk. Divorced and disillusioned at twenty-four, Paige Mattingly Austin Taylor is suddenly starting fresh as an intern at Catfish Stadium. She should want nothing to do with the sinfully hot ballplayer her dad warned her to stay away from. But when she discovers what Trevor is hiding from everyone, she realizes there’s much more to him than his face and multi-million-dollar arm. There’s a heart she seriously hopes to win.
  2. "THE FOUR SEASON" by Mary Alice Monroe (A++++++) A time for change...and second chances. They are the Season sisters, bound by blood, driven apart by a tragedy. Now they are about to embark on a bittersweet journey into the unknown; an odyssey of promise and forgiveness, of loss and rediscovery. Jillian, Beatrice and Rose have gathered for the funeral of their younger sister, Meredith. Her death, and the legacy she leaves them, will trigger a cross-country journey in search of a stranger - a stranger with the power to mend their shattered lives. As the emotions of the past reverberate into the present, Jilly, Birdie and Rose search for the girls they once were - in hopes of finding what they had really lost: they women they were meant to be.
  3. "REDWOOD BEND" by Robyn Carr (Virgin River #16) (A+++++) Katie Malone and her twin boys' trip along the beautiful mountain roads to Virgin River is stopped short by a tire as flat as her failed romance. To make matters worse, the rain has set in, the boys are hungry and Katie is having trouble putting on a spare. As she stands at the side of the road pondering her next move, she hears a distinct rumble. The sight of the sexy, leather-clad bikers who pull up beside her puts her imagination into overdrive. Dylan Childress and his buddies are on the motorcycle trip of a lifetime. But the sight of a woman in distress stops them in their tracks. And while the guys are checking out her car, she and Dylan are checking out one another. In one brief moment, the world tilts on its axis and any previous plans Katie and Dylan might have had for their futures are left at the side of the road.
  4. "DARKER" by E.L. James (Fifty Shades #5) (listened to on my phone using an Audible app) (A+++++) Their scorching, sensual affair ended in heartbreak and recrimination, but Christian Grey cannot get Anastasia Steele out of his mind, or his blood. Determined to win her back, he tries to suppress his darkest desires and his need for complete control, and to love Ana on her own terms. But the horrors of his childhood still haunt him, and Ana’s scheming boss, Jack Hyde, clearly wants her for himself. Can Christian’s confidant and therapist, Dr. Flynn, help him face down his demons? Or will the possessiveness of Elena, his seducer, and the deranged devotion of Leila, his former submissive, drag Christian down into the past? And if Christian does win Ana back, can a man so dark and damaged ever hope to keep her?
  5. "THE WICKED ONE" by Danelle Harmon (de Montforte Brothers #4) (A+++++) Meet Lucien de Montforte...The head of his noble family, the dark and dangerous Duke of Blackheath spends his time manipulating other lives without giving a thought to finding a wife of his own. Yet Lucien must admit he finds exquisite Eva de la Mouriére most intriguing. What adventurous, red-blooded male would not be intrigued by a flame-haired beauty who appears in his chambers demanding that he make love to her? Certainly this hot-tempered minx would make a delightful bedmate - though surely not a bride. Eva knows Lucien is the cause of all her current misfortunes, yet he refuses to be humiliated. But the worst betrayer is her own heart. No match for Lucien's seductive mastery, Eva craves the blackguard as she's never craved another. She must resist this rogue, but how long can she deny her own passion - or Lucien's blossoming genuine love - in the face of his scheming family's successful attempts to force a wedding?
  6. "THOSE TEXAS NIGHTS" by Delores Fossen (Wrangler's Creek #1) (A++++) The Granger siblings thought they'd left their ranching days behind, until fate sends them home to Wrangler's Creek, Texas - and into the passionate arms of those they'd least expect…It's some run of bad luck when Sophie Granger loses her business and gets left at the altar all in one day. Desperate to not appear jilted, Sophie begs Clay McKinnon, Wrangler's Creek's smoking-hot police chief, to pretend they're having an affair. But Clay refuses, leaving Sophie to retreat to the family ranch to lick her wounds. Hoping to leave his disreputable past behind, Clay moved to Wrangler's Creek for a fresh start. But that looks unlikely when Sophie's ex-fiancé shows up married to Clay's impulsive kid sister. Overcome, Sophie resuggests the affair - but this time for real. Clay is hesitant. City-girl Sophie isn't usually his type. But he can't deny the desire she elicits - or his yearning to have her plant her cowboy roots for good. "LONE STAR COWBOY" (Wrangler's Creek #.05)  by Delores Fossen (A++++) Money can't fix this dilemma - but love might. No falling for the ex...Jake Monroe became the most eligible rancher in Wrangler's Creek, Texas, at the drop of an inheritance. With land, horses and a fortune to protect, he can't let gold diggers into his pockets. But he can let people believe he and his ex are back together while she's in town working on the ranch. Trouble is, faking a relationship with Lily Rose Granger isn't nearly as hard as pretending their desire isn't real. No sleeping with the boss...Playing pretend isn't supposed to be so complicated, but Lily Rose won't give up. She's determined to prove to everyone that she's the best horse trainer around - and prove to herself that she;'s moved on from Jake. All she has to do is stay out of the cowboy's bed…or trust that this time around he's worth every risk.
  7. "SHORE LIGHTS" by Barbara Bretton (Shelter Cove: Paradise Point #1) (A+++++) Maddy Bainbridge knew that the things that drove her crazy about her mother when she was seventeen would drive her crazier now that she is thirty-two, but Rose's invitation to re home to the Jersey Shore came at a time when Maddy had few choices. Her ex had just remarried, her four-year-old daughter had lost her smile, and her job had gone the way of a thousand other dot-com disasters. Living under her mother's roof makes Maddy feel like a teenager again - and a sullen, misunderstood one at that. But even more than her troubled relationship with her mother, Maddy is worried about her daughter and determined to give her something to smile about, even if it means engaging in a heated on-line auction for an old Russian samovar. Ex-firefighter Aidan O'Malley wanted that samovar for his teenage daughter, and he isn't happy at being outbid. But from a bidding war, a most unlikely - and romantic - connection is formed. Both wary and weary, neither Maddy nor Aidan expect to care so deeply - and so quickly -  about each other. But amidst some surprising family secrets, their efforts to give a little girl and an elderly woman their hearts' desires may just give Maddy and Aidan a chance of finding their own.
  8. "WAYWARD ANGEL" by Patricia Rice (A+++++) He was her heaven - and her hell - Her real name was lady Alexandra Theodora Beaumont, the daughter of an abusive British lord. Rescued from a new drowning by some kindly Kentucky Quakers, little "Dora" was diguised as a typical quaker child and no one knew of her first years - not even Pace Nicholls, "bad boy" son of a local slaveholder. And from the day they met, wherever Pace was, so was Dora, who grew to womanhood pining for his love. Pace was a hellion as a booy - and a rebel as a man. He freed the family slaves and left his law practice to join the Union army. And Dora was always there, ready to nure his wounds. Pace had no excuse except war's insanity for taking her in wanton self-indulgence and not giving his heart, never guessing that the tables would one day turn. He never guessed that the toble and beautiful Lady Alexandra who had once come so willinglky into his arms, could be swept forever of=ut of his reach...unless this time he offered her his heart.
  9. "INDIGO LAKE" by Jodi Thomas (Ransom Canyon #6) (A+++++) Two families long divided by an ancient feud. Can a powerful love finally unite them? Blade Hamilton is the last of his line. He's never even heard of Crossroads, Texas, until he inherits land there. Riding in on his vintage Harley-Davidson, Blade finds a weathered ranch house, an empty prairie and a dark river that cuts a decisive path between the Hamiltons' land and that of their estranged neighbors. When Dakota helps a stranger on the roadside, she isn't prepared for the charisma of the man on the motorbike - or for the last name he bears: Hamilton, of her family's sworn enemies, representing all she's been raised to loathe. The problem is, it looks like Blade is in town to stay, and there's something about his wolf-gray eyes she just can't ignore. Lauren Brigman feels adrift. Unhappy in work and unlucky in love, she knows she ought to be striving for more, but she's never truly at peace unless she's at home in Crossroads. If the wider world can't satisfy her, is home truly where her heart is? "WINTER'S CAMP" by Jodi Thomas (Ransom Canyon #.05) (A+++++) A wanderer’s life was all James Randall Kirkland had known since he was an orphaned boy in San Antonio. And while years of adventure had satisfied his younger self, now he’s longing to put down roots of his own and is prepared to go it alone. But when he sees the Apache slave woman with the startling blue eyes, the course of his journey is changed forever. Ever since the Comanche raided her village and took her for their own, Millie hasn’t known any kind of freedom. After years of being outcast, beaten and traded from tribe to tribe, she’s unprepared for James’s patient tone and gentle ways. Still, as her handsome savior slowly earns her trust, Millie struggles between desire and fear, sure it’s just a matter of time before James tires of her and her burgeoning feelings are nothing but another wasted memory.
  10. "DATE WITH THE OTHER SIDE" by Erin McCarthy (Ohio's Most Haunted Town: Cuttersville #1) (A+++++) In the three years Shelby Tucker has been leading tour groups through the haunted houses of Cuttersville, Ohio, she's never caught a glimpse of a ghost. But she does get pretty startled when she waltzes into the bedroom of a supposedly vacant house and stumbles upon a sexy, hot-blooded naked man. This is no ghost, though. this guy is solid as a rock. Bad boy boston Macnamara is renting the so-called haunted house...and he's about to shake things up in good of Cuttersville. At least for Shelby, who's never been so hot and bothered before. And especially if some feisty matchmaking spirits have their say.
  11. "MAKE ME STAY" by Jaci Burton (Hope #5) (A+++++) Having left his hometown of Hope years ago, only one thing could persuade architect Reid McCormack to come home for a lengthy stay - the challenge of renovating a historic building. But once the job is finished, he’ll be headed back to Boston, no matter how much he’s drawn to beautiful florist Samantha Reasor. Samantha watches over her elderly grandmother and pours a piece of herself into every floral creation she designs. Her crush on Reid has been blooming for a while now, but she’s reluctant to act on it. A temporary fling isn’t what she’s looking for, even if Reid is smoking hot and super sexy. She wants a real, permanent, forever kind of love. Two people with different goals couldn’t possibly work, and yet as their attraction grows into something deeper, maybe falling in love is the one thing Samantha and Reid can build a future on.
  12. "A KISS ON CRIMSON RANCH" by Michelle Major (new author for me) (Crimson, Colorado #1) (A+++++) From Home-Sweet-Hollywood…to home on the range - Former child star Sara Wellens has hit a dead end in Hollywood. When she inherits half of a crumbling guest ranch in Crimson, Colorado, Sara figures she'll sell her portion to get back on her own two feet and be back in the black in no time at all. No harm, no foul…right? The one thing she didn't count on was her partner-in-property, hunky former bull rider and single dad Josh Travers. Sara is surprised at how quickly she bonds with the charming cowboy and his daughter. But she insists that she's definitely not looking for a forever family. Can the rancher and the starlet let down their guards to find their own Hollywood happy ending?

Dracula by Bram Stoker - it's taking me a long time to read - not because it's a bad story, just the old writing style makes it slower for me.

I almost never read non-fiction but have read three this week back to back.  I recommend all three:

The Ogalla Road by Julene Bair

Dying and Living on the Kansas Prairie by Carol Brunner Rutledge

Made for You and Me by Caitlin Shetterly

For differing reasons, I strongly identified with all three.  The recession of 2008 which killed my professional life, living and dying of our friends and relatives in Kansas and the struggles to love and be loved.  Three women authors who wrote their hearts out.

Finished this month:  The Dying Game by Beverly Barton--- Someone is killing former beauty queens and Griffin Powell and his agency have been hired by the husband of one of the women to find the killer.  Lots of twists and turns before the killer is revealed, and even then the mystery is not solved. Fairly gruesome reading, but a good story all in all.

Wisker of Evil by Rita Mae Brown --- Big changes in store for "Harry' Haristeen.  When she discovers the body of a man in the woods it brings up a long-ago missing persons case. Are the two related? Mrs. Murphy, Tucker and Pewter try their best to get the humans to follow the clues.

A Chesapeake Shore Christmas by Sherryl Woods --- A continuation of the O'Brien family as they try to muddle their way through the family conflicts.  I believe if I had as stubborn a family as this one, I'd leave town. Makes you want to shake a few people and tell them to wake up!!

A Deadly Dealer by J. B. Stanley --- Molly Appleby and her mother, Clara, are at the Heart of Dixie antique show in Nasheville so Molly can cover it for "Collector's Weekly", the magazine she works for. While there Molly finds the body of one of the dealers and there are numerous suspects. The plot revolves around a walking stick that seems to find it's way into more than one murder dating back many years. Fun read, especially if you like antiques.

Tuesday's Child by Fern Michaels --- Sophie Lee has spent 10 years in prison for killing a woman; when the husband makes a dying confession that he did it, she's set free. When she ends up inheriting a vast fortune from the man upon his death her life and those of her friends and lawyers take drastic changes. Ending is not what the reader expects!

Divine Justice by David Baldacci --- 4th in the Camel Club series and it's a great read!! Oliver Stone is on the run after killing two men; one responsible for his wife and daughter's murders and one for his having to be in hiding for years. When he ends up in Divine, VA he's caught up in situations he can't walk away from and it may cost him his freedom. That's when the Camel Club members come to his rescue.  Love, love, love this series!!

Flashback by Nevada Barr --- Anna Pigeon is on temporary assignment at Dry Tortugas National Park, a tiny park I didn't even know existed seventy miles off Key West. While there she recieves some letters from her sister, Molly, written by her great-great aunt, Raffia, who lived there with her husband who was the commanding officer of Fort Jefferson during and after the Civil War. This is actually two stories that intertwine, historic and modern, as Anna reads the letters and investigates the explosion of a boat. Interesting read.
