Arietta is a really dark, interesting and descriptive story, written very much like fairytales used to be. The book is designed to invoke a Victorian/Steampunk feel and the illustrations are beautiful and are very much in the vein of the "Penny Dreadfuls", gorgeous as they are, they don't detract from but add to the story.

I would definitely say that this book is not for children, for young teens it would be a good introduction to how fairytales used to be. I was glad to have read this, it's a good start for a new author.
