My biggest complaint about this book: It was way too long! I feel the story could've been condensed for a quicker read and it would've had just as much impact, if not more so. The story is an interesting concept. I always enjoy different takes on the vampire theme. However, I was left feeling dissatisfied with this story. I enjoyed the bit of history lesson tied into it (I always do enjoy historical PNR) from the timeframe of King Henry the XIII. I would've liked to have known a little more about the vampirism aspect of it. It left me with too many questions. Also I don't feel the character of Carlos was properly developed. I feel his character and his feelings toward Sarah could've been sketched out a bit more. I found the character of Sarah's friend, Colleen, to be slightly annoying. There is potential in this story for a decent book and the author clearly is a good writer. It just needs more work. I would've liked to have seen the story pulled together a bit more neatly and condensed a bit. I am interested to see what happens next in the second installment of the series but I'm wary of being pulled into another overly long novel that leaves me feeling unfulfilled. I give this book 2.5 stars.
