The Assistant Officers Author:Richard Johnson Lewis Masonic is proposing to publish a new series of practical guides for Lodge officers to replace the outmoded books currently available. These are intended to be published over the course of 2009-2011. Author Richard Johnson has written several books combining several offices into single volumes and the intention is that he will rewrite thes... more »e where appropriate so that they can be represented as affordable paperbacks on individual offices. To introduce the series, the content of the first two books - "Assistant Officers" and "Principal Officers" - will remain largely similar. "The Assistant Officers" should include additional material, especially in the historical aspects as this is effectively the introductory book in the series, and there are some additional extras to put in the "Principal Officers'" book, but not as many. We will then publish four separate books on the Secretary, the Director of Ceremonies, the Treasurer and the Almoner + Charity Steward. These will be rewritten to ensure that every aspect for readers is covered in the books from the perspective of that particular office. They will include some additional information, and the Treasurer book will include advice for the lodge Auditor. If necessary, Richard Johnson is happy for a new author who is experienced in accountants to take over the project but the aim is to provide advice for the non-professional Treasurer and, if appropriate, professionals responsible for Lodge accounts. Richard Johnson's new book on the Lodge Mentor, due to be published in 2010, will also form part of the series. It is intended to spread the series over the next two/three years. When complete we will have volumes on Assistant Officers, Principal Officers, Secretary Director of Ceremonies, Treasurer Almoner and Charity. Steward Chapters on Assistant Officers will cover The Steward, The Tyler, The Inner Guard, The Deacons, A Check List for Laying Out the Lodge Room, Order of Appointing and Investing Officers and their Respective Jewels.« less
