About 10 years ago, when I was still exclusively reading mysteries and suspense, I stumbled across a great series about a woman who taught??/ worked at a women's college.  She was a lesbian and had just broken up with her SO but I believes met who also worked there. And I think there was something about a river nearby (I remember she rowed somewhere).

I don't remember the author or the main characters name anymore.  A (lesbian) friend and I were discussing books and I mentioned this series but she didn't remember it either.

The name Ellen comes to mind but I don't know if that was the author or the character.

Any help would be greatly appreciate.

Ok, here's some titles to go through...I searched via keyword on Amazon: "mystery school lesbian"

Anyway, I'm winding down for the night, so I am a little lazy to read through the list, but

I do see some books from the 90's...

Ellen Hart?  Series' not set at a college, though.    http://www.stopyourekillingme.com/H_Authors/Hart_Ellen.html

Val McDermid has a series but only the first book was set at a private girl's school.   http://www.stopyourekillingme.com/M_Authors/McDermid_Val.html

My un-great mind has been thinking it would be neat if a person or two put together a web site link list for

finding LGBTQ books and authors by genre, etc.

Sorry, Charlie! LOL  Its none of them either.

I know it was set in a college because as the books went on it seemed as if every woman in the dorm was lesbian also (which is not how it started).

I got the books from the library.  Maybe I'll go over there and see if anyone else remembers!

Okay, I reread the info on the Jane Lawless books (Hallowed Murder) and I think it may be Ellen Hart I'm thinking of.  Especially with that book.

Thanks for all the help!   I'm going to see if a copy is available and reacquaint myself.

It might be Ani. I know the first book was set in a college.  But I think Jane's SO died, they didn't split up. It's been a long time since I read them. But Jane is a restruanteur and amature sleuth. The books stand by themselves but like most series there is character developement. I still have a few left on my bookshelf.

The only other series I know of and I only read one is the Kate Donnelly books. I think that's the author. I remember the character's name is Cassidy(either first or last) Boy, CRS is killing me!
