So the weekly reading thread inspired this: I though we could list authors and their known alias'. Some of them I don't get either. Why have more than one in the same genre? I get the Nora Roberts/JD Robb one sort of although I have never read a non-Robb Nora Roberts book. But the Robb books are futuristic thriller/romances. There wasn't much romance in the couple I've read. So I get that. But some of them write historicals under 2 or 3 dif names. Why? So lets get a list going for fun. Nora Robers: aka JD Robb Diana Palmer: aka Susan Kyle Heather Graham: aka Shannon Drake |

OK, I gotta ask. According to that link, Jayne Ann Krantz has a total of 7 different pen names. I can maybe see having a couple, but 7? What's the point? |

Alexis, Back in the olden days when an author changed publishing houses they also changed pen names. The publishing house was the big deal, not the author so much. Nowadays an author seems to just be who they are and take their identity with them when they change publishers. I think the advent of the internet had a lot to do with this. So JAK was Stephanie James for Silhouette Romances, Jayne Bentley for MacFadden, Jayne Castle for Dell's Candlelight Ecstasy Romance and Amanda Glass when she wrote the futuristic Shield's Lady for somebody or other. Authors also have different names for different types of books to keep from confusing their readers as to what they are buying. So today JAK writes historicals as Amanda Quick, futuristic paranormals as Jayne Castle and contemporaries as JAK. |

I have Shield's Lady and it says Jayne Ann Krentz as the Author. But I don't think it's the original cover/edition. So maybe they changed it at some point. It's part of a trilogy. The publisher thing makes sense. Edited forgot to add: I've noticed they've been reissuing a lot of Lori Foster and Janet Evanovich books and changing the names. This has't been that big a deal to me because I've only been reading romance for about a year and haven't read all of theirs. But I was looking at a couple of JE's books the other day and they all said "this was originally released in 199?? and called "blah blah blah". So if you order it online you could easily end up with a book you've already read because they changed the name and updated it a little. Last Edited on: 11/24/07 2:22 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Yes, when you get as big as JAK older books get reprinted, sometimes multiple times, under the better known name. And to further confuse things, she wrote for Harlequin, mostly Temptations, as Jayne Ann Krentz. I think it was after Harlequin bought Silhouette that they reprinted a ton of the Desires that she wrote as Stephanie James but they still used the James name. All very confusing. She also wrote a couple of novels for Dell as Jayne Castle. As far as I know they have never been reprinted and so have become collectibles. Trading Secrets and Double Dealing. Do you know the titles of the other books in the Shield's Lady trilogy? I never knew there were more. |

I've seen a lot of people in the stores having the reissue problem with Nora Roberts books. Her older Harlequin sized books are reissued all the time with 2 or 3 in a book and a new title. |

Susan Civil-Brown writes as Rachel Lee
Check out my book list; if interested in anything, make me an offer. |

I have one posted. They are Sweet Starfire, Crystal Flame, and Shield's Lady. I have Sweet Starfire posted. I have the other 2 but haven't read them yet. I don't think they need to be read together or in order. They are all just futuristic. They might connect somewhat. I've had them along time so I'll get to get them out and look. I know I read Sweet Starfire but I'm completely drawing a blank on it right now. I might have to reread it before I read the other 2. |

Ooh, I'm glad I decided to read this thread. I have the other two JAK books you mentioned Mary (and I really liked those), but forgot about looking for "Sweet Starfire". I just requested it from you, so yay! |

Someone put that Hannah Howell is also Sarah Dustin but it's Sandra Dustin. I bought an older HH lot on ebay w/some oop htf books. A couple are her Anna Jenets and there's one that's Sandra Dustin. They are all Scottish midevil type romances. I guess the alias are for the dif publishing houses. |
