I loved Karen Marie Moning's Fae books.. like the romance and "odd" characters, etc.,   don't care for total werewolf & vampire type characters.. Are there any other books out there similar??   Thank you   ( I did read her Highlander books too)

So not Vampires or werewolves/ shifters?  Here are a few off the top of my head

Illona Andrews- there are shifters and Vampires but its very different, and the main character isn't either one. and Edge series; also different with good world building

Allyson James- Stormwalker and Firewalker

Nalini Singh-Guild Hunters- there are vampires, but the main characters are hunters and angels

Richelle Mead- Succubus series and Stormborn series

Rachel Caine Weatherwardens

Rachel Vincent- Soul Screamers (YA)

Jenna Black- Morgan Kingsley- demons and exorcists and (YA) Glimmerglass and Shadowspell

Jessica Andersen-Nightkeepers series- Mayan mages

Meljean Brook- Gaurdian series- there are some vampires, but its mainly about angels and demons

I hesitate to reccomend Laurell K Hamiliton, but the first few books of her Merry Gentry series are pretty good, and it's abot the Fae.

Patti O'Shea has a good series - involving magic.  No vamps or were's:

The Light Warriors Series:

In the Midnight Hour

In Twilight's Shadow

Edge of Dawn

In the Darkest Night

I've looked, but was unable to find any.  I first got interested in Moning due to the time travel element, like in Outlander.  Not many other authors do the time travel elment, though.   I think the closest you might find are some romances that take place in Scotland.  Since I don't like paranormals with vampires etc., I don't think there's much else similar.

I'd also be interested to know if someone else has suggestions.  Moning does have some good ones.  Particularly enjoyed the Dark Highlander.

I thought about it some more and did think of one author that has a sort of parnormal/supernatural theme set in medieval times similar to  Karen Marie Moning. No werewolves or vampires, thankfully.

Elizabeth Lowell's medieval series Untamed/ Forbidden / Enchanted is  very good.  Her style is different from Moning and there's no time travel, but they are very VERY good, and I'm picky.  The writing is beautiful and lots of steam too.

Claudia,

If you like the time travel element without vampires or werewolves, just google "time travel romance" and you'll find a few sites with some suggestions that you might like.  I'm very big on them myself.  You can also pick that genre on your search engine under romance on this site.

Good luck,

Margaret
