So I've been listening to Christine Feehan's Dark series on audio.  I swear she uses the "molten" as in "molten heat" , "her molten core", "his eyes were molten".  Gack!  I really want to read/listen to rest of the series but I'm going to gag if I hear the word "molten" again.  

I'm seriously tempted to leave a message on her website to ask her to find another word to use! 

Also she uses "sets her teeth on edge" all the time.  What does that mean anyway?

ETA:  And how can Nora Roberts and Janet Evanovich crank out so many freakin' books?  Do you think they really write them all by themselves? 

Diana Palmer is another who seems to pump out the books...and now, I haven't read any of her newer stuff, but what I did read was all the same. Mean Hero, long haired twenty something year old virgin... I got a little sick of them.

Iris Johansen was another author I stopped reading, all her characters said 'dammit' a LOT! Find another curse word, no need for all the characters to say the same one all the time!

Amanda Quick was another author I quit reading because it seemed she was using the same outline for each book.

I think in some ways, it's just like vocabulary.  We all have a tendency to be repititious in the words & phases we commonly use - we just don't notice it:P  Writers have to be extra-vigilant lest their readers start to notice.  And being repititious with your narrative & dialogue in a single book... well, that's just bad.  I usually don't notice until at least the second book:P

*ETA: LOL - Susanna, yer killin' me with the "sleepy nipples" today.  I've been giggling like an idiot over that:P

I would settle for Diana Palmer beng repetitious if she could just track of wtf she wrote! Today I was skimming one of hers and the heroine says "It was good to see you" and TWO SENTENCES LATER the hero says "You haven't said you were glad to see me." And that sort of thing happens *all the time* in her books. I have never in my life encountered such sloppy writing.

well what are they Kim?? somebody educate me here! :-0 if it means droopy then I might have that covered and my problem is something else...but the description d idnt' sound like anything could be droopy with all that was going on...

I would guess droopy, Susanna, but if ever there was an ick button word for a romance novel, it would be droopy:P  Maybe she was sagging just a bit and the author said they were "sleepy" instead.

Ditto on the Diana Palmer. I love her to bits, but lately her books seem to be the same. Older, brooding, mean-tempered rich guy and meek, timid, sex-assualt victim (maybe) virgin. And he always insults her really bad and has to make up for it. Also, what's with the heros losing arms? There was that hero from Outsider and Simon Hart.

I'm also (very sadly) over Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Why do the characters always have unresolved issues with a parent and are bitter about it until the very end of the book? Also, I love football, but the Chicago Stars winning that many Superbowls would put them in the records books where no one could catch them!

Another one that's not high on the list, but one I can't read anymore is Judy Christenberry. I was reading every single book she came out with, even e-mailing her to tell her how much I enjoyed her books, yada yada yada... But now I can't read them. I've noticed that the characters all seem to talk the same way. Short, punchy sentences. Every book was starting to meld into one another. I can't even go back and re-read some of my favorites because of this.Also, if I see one more billionaire/millionaire who wants to buy a bride or wants to buy a bride to have his baby, I'll scream! Ever heard of adopting?

And is it 'sheik' or 'sheikh'? Either way, there are darn too many of those books being pumped out too!

What's with Diana Palmer's heros? Sometimes they seem borderline abusive to me!

OK I um missed the whole sleepy nipples thing. But maybe they just weren't awake yet. They were just flat and not popping out (yet).

I'm almost positive I've encountered bashful nipples in romance. Never grumpy ones, though I suspect mine have been grumpy at times.

Mine are always out.  They have no shame.

I swear this book should be 'fantasy' instead of erotic romance..I dont' know of any guy who can do it 4-5 times per day day after day..well aside from jail bait that is...but the book was pretty good - promises keep by sarah mccarty..little tired of all the long nipples being miled though..sigh...

Natalie, Judy Christenberry was a favorite of mine..I loved 'in papa bear's bed' and the first 4 Randall stories then I don't know what happened..I bought some of the later Randall books and ick could barely f inish one..ended up skimming and not sure I wanna read the others after that one :-( awful since the papa bear one is one of  my favorite series romance books out of about 20 or so...really good story.

ok danielle steel I'm tired of seeing but not Nora Roberts  yet! not that I've bought her  new ones lately since I'm still trying to catch up but I usually like Roberts' stuff though she could slow down a bit LOL!

I think the reason there are so many Nora Roberts books out there is because the publisher is always reissuing her older books and making them look new. She's been writing for 20+ yrs so ther are plenty to reissue. She does have more new releases out than the average one book a year author, but I like her writing so I'm not complaining. I think she has 2 new JD Robb "...IN Death" books and a HC Nora Roberts novel released each year and then there's a mmpb trilogy that works out to be more like every other year.

I've yet to read a book by Danielle Steele. I guess I've seen too many of them made into TV movies.

Brenda Joyce tends to over use "cried out" in her books. When the heroine stumbles, is startled, has sex she always "cries out".

yeah, I hate it when they reprint and dont' state it as such. and I don't know why they reissued teh Stars of Mithra trilogy that was originally silhouettes I think in 2 volumes??why not put all 3 in the same darned book? I DO like her doing the trilogy within a few months instead of dragging them on forever like she used to do. by the time the next one came out I'd  have forgotten the other story...
