Reluctant beauty queen became private investigator and married former con artist. Maddy and her husband Jerry are very likable and intelligent characters. In this book (the 4th of the series), Maddy considers motherhood while she attempts to put order into her world. Excellent writing; very interesting mystery. I would say this is a cozy, but it is on the serious side, approaching real-life. These aren't the same characters that are in so many cozy mysteries, and definitely not the basic plot that many have. I always like a book/movie/tv show where I don't know exactly what is going to happen next. Even the middle of this book was interesting; I kept turning the pages as fast as I could.
