THE BEST BAKED FRENCH TOAST
1 large egg bread (challah), or large loaf french bread; Cut thick slices about 3/4" thick.
8 eggs, 3 cups milk, 3/4 tsp salt, 3 tsp sugar, 1-1/2 tbps vanilla, butter, cinnamin.
The night before you bake this; Mix together eggs, milk, salt, sugar & vanilla, Grease large baking/roasting pan (or a big foil lasagna pan works well). Put bread slices flat; if you overlap, turn a couple of times before baking.
Cover and refrigerate 6-24 hours.
Oven 350deg. spread butter on bread, add cinnamin. Bake 1 hours or until edges are brown. Serve with maple syrup.
For Variation: You can add raisins and/or apple slices and make a BREAD PUDDING. OR: use raisin bread for a bread pudding for dessert and pour strawberry sauce, (just puree frozen strawberries) over it when serving. Add whipped cream if you want.
This is a lusious breakfast or dessert if made as a bread pudding. It comes out like custard.
