I want to review this book, even though I've already passed it along to another reader. I did not expect to like a book about boxing, even though I often enjoy learning the Jewish history that provides the context for Barney Ross' life story. Century held my attention with his portrayal of Ross's character--simultaneously hard-working and self-sacrificing, and addictive and pleasure-seeking. I know people like this, people who could either put all their energy into gambling or drugs (as Ross did) or to athletics and helping people (as Ross also did.) Intense, complex and entertaining--I really want to know what the fellow to whom I sent my copy thought!
