This is Barre's follow-up to his Shamus Award-winning debut novel. Our hero is rough-cut Will Hardesty, a likable and capable PI. "Secrets" twists and turns with the agility of a German roadster, along an Autobahn plotline. Author Robert Crais describes this as "a richly textured novel brimming with complex and all-too-human characters." At less than 300 pages, Barre's second novel reads very quickly, but with the depth and backstory of a much heavier work. Can't wait to read the next installment in this series. Four stars, at least. (Be sure to read "The Innocents" first!)
