When this book first came out a year or two ago, I read it and loved it. I told a lot of people about it - how I couldn't read it fast enough. Loved it.
I had the chance to listen to it as an audiobook this week (Feb. 2014). I had to change my 5-star rating to a 2.5-star and even that is generous.
The rest of this review contains SPOILERS so if you haven't read the book, stop here!
The main character, Christine, who suffers from amnesia, is really not that interesting. You are told over and over how much her husband loves her, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out why. Because of her amnesia, her husband has to tell her every day the same story. She's not very pleasant to him.
She truly is one-dimensional character because of her illness. She whines, she cries, she complains, she's just someone that the writer doesn't give enough personality to to see what makes everyone love her.
She's cheated on her husband, she wasn't around (because of her illness) for the majority of her son's life, and she doesn't remember her one closest friend. It seems like she didn't even have any friends at all. What makes her so lovable?
Wait for the movie. It has to be better than the book.
