  • 1/2 Cup - sugar
  • 2 pkg - yeast
  • 6 1/2 Cups - flour
  • 1 tsp - salt
  • 1 Cup - evaporated milk
  • 2 - eggs, well beaten
  • 1/2 Cup - shortening

Cream together shortening, sugar, and salt.

Add 1 Cup BOILING water and one cup evaporated milk.  Set aside.

Mix yeast well in 1/4 Cup warm water.  Add beaten eggs and yeast to mixture, mix well.

Add 3 1/2 Cups flour to mixture and beat with spoon.  Add another 3 Cups flour and mix. 

Place dough in covered greased container and place in refrigerator for at least one hour.

When ready roll out to about 1/4" thick.  Cut into 3" squares and place a 1/2" slit in center of square.

Fry until golden brown and drain on paper towels.  Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.

Dough may be stored for a few days in the refridgerator.

How much shortening is required since it's not on the ingredients list?

How much shortening? It was not listed in the recipe.
