My son was just cleaning out his old closet and found a whole bunch of books, including "Stranded" by Ben Mikaelsen.  Has anyone else run into his works?  They're well-written young adult adventure novels.
Stranded"  is about a girl who's lost a foot and becomes stranded in the ocean with two dying pilot whales.  OK, it's a bit over the top, but it won several awards.

OK...maybe someone knows my favorite of his books, "Sparrowhawk Red."   A young Hispanic boy crosses the border and tangles with drug runners to protect his father's livelihood.  He forges a relationship with a street kid who helps him survive.  It's a lovely book, tho again a bit over the top, but well written and intense.  I've often recommended it for 10-12 yr old boys who are reluctant readers.  He's an author who's a bit off the radar, but worth checking out.

Sorry, I've never heard of him. I do like survival adventure books, though. I recently read Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen, and loved it.
