There hasn't been much written on the battle for the three Baltic states, both early in the war and toward the end. This book solves that problem. However, if you are looking for personalized accounts of what so many suffered on both sides, and those caught in the middle, this isn't the book for you.

The author goes into great detail detailing the movements Soviet and German divisions, corps, armies, groups and fronts, but seldom has much to say about the little guys getting killed.

Plus the maps are difficult to read, in that many towns are mentioned in the text, but are hard to find in the few maps available. For the most part, it is just best to skip the maps, or perhaps see if you can find a good Atlas on the Baltic states.

Getting through this book takes perseverance.
