Historian Hannah Marsh is writing a book about her ancestor, Priscilla Marsh, who was hanged for being a witch three hundred years ago. Judge Cotton Harling sentenced her to death. Now Hannah is in Boston where she pretends to be a Harling to smooth her way into getting information about the Judge and exactly what happened to Priscilla. When Win Harling finds out that a Marsh is posing as a Harling, he confronts her. Their families have been feuding for years and Win doesn't trust Hannah's story about writing a book.

This book could have been so good, but just fell flat. Hannah knows she needs to avoid the Harlings while she is in Boston using their name. But instead she does a series of stupid things like charge an expensive dress to the Harling account. Then she wonders why Win doesn't trust her or her story. She is also searching for something called the "Harling Collection" which has been missing for years. Win's uncle believes the Marsh family stole the collection and is hiding it.

The highlight of the book is the bickering between Win's elderly Uncle Johnathan and Hannah's elderly cousin Thackery. Their threats and accusations were sometimes hilarious. Their matchmaking was also fun. My rating: 3 Stars.
